Felicity – A Philosophical Fable [Chapter 11]
Mimi awoke in her bed. She didn’t know how long she had slept. She never did. But this time there was something different about it. Waking up had always felt natural. She always woke up feeling refreshed. But not this time.
This time she awoke from a dream. A strange dream. Or at least it seemed like a dream. She couldn’t be sure. Maybe it was a memory. A memory of something that happened long ago. A distant memory.
She remembered being woken up by Fae. She remembered the horrible noise, the darkness, the flashing light that hurt her eyes. She remembered the intruders. And what she had done to them.
But when did it all happen?
She felt as if her sleep had been troubled. As if she had swallowed something noxious. As if her body had been bloated and her mind uneasy.
How long had she slept? There was no way to know. She was never hungry or thirsty. Her hair and nails never grew. And she was always clean as the morning dew. So she never knew how long she had slept.
Everyday Sunny would paint. Tripp would compose poetry. Wave would make music. But their creations were ephemeral. Created one day and gone the next. There was never any sign of the passage of time.
She could have slept for a year. For all she knew, she could have slept for two.
