Felicity – A Philosophical Fable [Chapter 13]

The three of them were laughing. A merry laughter. Mimi liked it. They were sitting on floor cushions, Fae, Sunny, and Wave, and they were tossing a soft fabric ball back and forth.

They invited Mimi to play. She sat on a floor cushion and the game resumed. Fae was holding the ball. Her eyes were half closed and she rocked gently in place. She looked euphoric. Then she tossed the ball to Wave and her trance immediately dissipated. Meanwhile his face took on a faraway look.

Mimi’s turn was next. She cupped her hands and Wave tossed the ball to her. The moment it touched her hands her perceptions were distorted. Shapes became shapeless. Contours dissolved. Everything wavered and shimmered, silvery and vibrant. Everything pulsed with life. Colors morphed before her eyes, as if she were looking through a kaleidoscope. It was beautiful and fantastic and sublime.

Mimi felt the space around her body, felt it as a palpable presence caressing every inch of her flesh. Was she still sitting on a floor cushion? Or was she afloat on supple liquid air? Or drifting through a sea of foam?

Eons of serenity passed before Mimi remembered the soft fabric ball in her hands. She tossed it to Sunny.
