First Memory

I. First Memory

The lush expanse of grass was
inviting, but even more inviting
was the wild rabbit that bounded
across it. I remember myself, not
yet four years old, toddling after
the sprightly creature. It was a
glorious spring day and Nana let
me play on the great lawn outside
the white hospital. Inside, my sister
was being born. Though I did
not know it at the time. All I
knew was the green grass,
the bright sunshine, and
the beguiling rabbit.
