Escape
VIII. Escape –
When I was a child I could
sometimes, and just sometimes,
slip out of my body. My mind
swayed from side to side separating
slightly from my body, a little more
each time until I must have been
halfway out. My body lay still,
but I was partially outside of it,
partially free of it. Sometimes,
when I surfed it just right, I could
get – I was sure – three-quarters out.
If I ever got out – completely out –
would I want to go back?
